OAS (Oral Allergy Syndrome) Diet
by Sue Kira, Naturopath & Clinical Nutritionist
OAS (Oral Allergy Syndrome) is a condition where some who suffer from hayfever (a respiratory allergic response to proteins in pollens) also react to proteins that are found in certain foods. This is considered ‘cross-reactivity’ where your immune system thinks the protein in specific foods is the same protein that it reacted to in pollens. The medical recognition of the connection of reactive foods in hay-fever is only recent, yet the condition is more common than realised.
